The Best Modern Translation with Commentary

Like it or not, the Bible is a foundational text of our modern Western civilization. Thus we need the best available modern translation from the ancient Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek in which it was originally written. The Revised Standard Version, first published some 60 years ago and to my mind still the best available modern English translation, is the basis of the Harper Study Bible.
But to be useful to the modern reader, every modern translation needs a modern commentary that will still fit into one single volume. And the Harper Study Bible fills that bill admirably. For such a commentary gives us at least the basic facts that we need in order to really understand the Bible, by answering a journalist's seven basic questions: Who (wrote it)? What (exactly did he write)? When, Where, How, Why (did he write it)? And to Whom (did he write it)? Any reader who takes such questions seriously is already on the path to serious biblical scholarship. And to take one's first steps on that path, the Harper Study Bible is an aide with few if any parallels.

Bible was described accurately. Condition was as expected. Shipment arrived OK. This Bible has very excellent notes and I have found the earlier copy that I have to be very helpful.
